The attacking midfielder is among the crop of young players who have taken the current Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season by storm.
Known for his ability to make accurate short and long passes, Ochieng has found the back of the net three times and provided four assists in the nine league matches he has played so far.
Famously known as Kajos, Ochieng is currently attached to four-time Kenyan champions Ulinzi Stars, having joined the soldiers at the start of the 2024-2025 season.
Before his move to Ulinzi, Ochieng featured for National Super League (NSL) side Migori Youth in the 2022-2023 season.
He began his football journey at the famous Obunga FC whilst he was a pupil at Highway Primary School in Kisumu.
Ochieng rose through the club’s established youth ranks while balancing his primary school studies and football.
The talent displayed during Primary School Games and at Obunga earned him a scholarship to Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) football giants, St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale.
He shared the St. Anthony’s dressing room with a host of renowned players, among them are: Aldrine Kibet, Amos Wanjala, Manzur Suleiman Okwaro, Javan Omondi, and Brian Emillio Okelo.

Ochieng was on demand after completing his studies, but it was Migori Youth who won the race for his signature after beating a host of interested teams.
The 21-year-old played a key role in Migori’s third-place finish in the 2022-2023 NSL season, where the club narrowly lost the promotion/relegation playoff to the now-defunct Wazito FC.
His stellar performances that season earned him a move to Ulinzi Stars, though he first spent five months with the club’s youth team.
Onyango was officially promoted to the Ulinzi senior team in January 2024.
Revive Sports Management Chief Executive Officer Feisal Osman described Ochieng as one of the most exciting and disciplined midfielders in the Kenyan top tier, and tipped him for a bright professional future.
“Joseph is a hardworking, humble, and disciplined player. We are delighted to have him on board and are committed to supporting his career growth,” said Osman, a FIFA licensed football agent.
