Fast-rising centre back Amatton Samunya Kipsoi has joined the leading agency in Kenya, Revive Sports Management.

Currently attached to four-time Kenyan champions Ulinzi Stars, Samunya has defied inexperience to establish himself as one of the rock-solid defenders in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL)in his maiden season.

The 21-year-old has so far featured in 20 matches, finding the back of the net twice and helping the soldiers keep clean sheets.

Samunya ticks all the boxes for a modern defender right, as he is comfortable in building from behind and in possession, strong in tackles and aerial duels, capable of initiating attacks, among other qualities.

Like many footballers, Samunya’s football talent was spotted during Primary School Games, where he represented Eldama Ravine Primary School in Baringo County.

While his fellow pupils put strong emphasis on athletics, he opted to chart his own path in football, ultimately landing a scholarship to Menengai High School in Nakuru for his high school studies.

His football talent blossomed at Menengai, laying the foundation for his rise to club football, as third-tier side Nakuru Bucks acquired his signature when he was a form two student in 2020.

He would serve Bucks until Ulinzi knocked on his door and handed him a contract in September last year, having been impressed by his defensive attributes.

Before his time at Bucks, Samunya featured for his boyhood clubs, Ravine Roses and Ravine Soccer Centre, during which he faced Rising Stars’ star boy Aldrine Kibet, along with other promising footballers from Baringo.

Revive Sports Management Chief Executive Officer Feisal Osman commended Samunya for his hard work, discipline and bravery shortly after the defender put pen to paper.

“We are pleased to have Samunya on board. He is one of promising central defenders in the country. He is brave in tackling and carrying the ball forward, which is in a necessity in modern football. He is comfortable in building from behind and is disciplined,” said the FIFA licensed agent.

Samunya becomes the second player to join Revive Sports after midfielder Joseph ‘Kajos’ Ochieng.
